*PID Individual Portrait Competition - Update*

Exciting News:  The PID Individual Portrait Competition has been 
improved and expanded.  There are now 4 skill levels, including 2 
beginner levels, and 4 rounds.

All past entrants have been assigned to one of two advanced levels based 
on their prior performances.  A complete set of awards will be given for 
each level.
Each competition is considered an individual event.  This means it isnot 
necessary to enter all competitions to be eligible for the 
End-Of-The-Year competition.
Preregistration is required; however, you may submit your portrait 
images as soon as your application is processed.
*Round 2 - Opens January 25, Closes February 25
Round 3 - Opens March 25, Closes April 25
Round 4 - Opens May 25, Closes June 25*

The goal of the PSA Youth Showcase is to involve the Society and its 
Chapters, clubs, councils, and federations in the promotion and 
education of photography among young people by highlighting outstanding 
photographs from high school age students.

The Youth Showcase is open to all students worldwide, ages 14 through 19 
and attending high school or its equivalent. Entries are limited to 
sixteen images, eight prints and eight projected images, from any one 
high school, and any one student can enter no more than two prints and 
two projected images.

Again, the deadline is April 12, 2017.  For more details, the Youth

All individual PSA members are reminded that the PSA Portfolio 
Assessment Committee has already begun to accept portfolios for the 
assessment in June, 2017.  The closing date is
*May 15, 2017*. The assessments will take place June 8-11.  That is less 
than 4 months from now.  The first 100 portfolios received will be 
assessed.   Portfolios must be received and the fee paid by
*May 15*, so please plan ahead.  Addresses for sending portfolios and 
other important information will be provided in the near future on the 
Portfolio pages of the PSA website

It is essential that you understand all elements of the process. Take 
the time to: (1) carefully review all the available Portfolio Assessment 
information and rules before preparing the portfolio; (2) carefully 
draft a Statement of Intent using no more than 75 words; and (3) 
carefully take and/or select images which you plan to use, and (4) 
prepare an overview image with them in the order you want them 
assessed.   If you are not confident with your English as you prepare a 
Statement of Intent, ask a skilled English speaker who reviews the 
Portfolio Assessment information and rules to help you with the 
Statement of Intent.

Be thoughtful in your approach to development of a portfolio. Take the 
time to reflect and think creatively as you develop a theme and intent.  
If you find a new challenge in this effort, and broaden your 
understanding of photography as you develop a portfolio, whether your 
portfolio is accepted for a distinction or not, we hope you will find 
the time well spent.
